33 West Palmer Street, Philadelphia, PA, USA

Our Pennsylvania team and Sierra Club Pennsylvania hosted the first of three guided tours of EPA cleanup sites in North Philadelphia. Organizers and participants began in the Kensington neighborhood where Sierra Club’s Amy Kwasnicki led a conversation on Kensington High School for the Creative Performing Arts, a Platinum LEED certified building whose location’s remediation was funded in part by an EPA grant. The group also discussed Green City Clean Waters, Philadelphia’s ambitious plan in partnership with EPA, to reduce stormwater pollution using green infrastructure. The group then heard from the Norris Square Neighborhood Project, an organization that seeks to promote positive change through youth education, community leadership, green spaces, the arts, and the celebration of Latinx cultures. The tour concluded with time spent at some of the six urban gardens developed between 1980 and 2006, and embody the Puerto Rican diaspora in Philadelphia.
