DEFEND OUR FUTURE CALLS ON EPA ADMINISTRATOR SCOTT PRUITT TO RESIGN; ANNOUNCES SIX-FIGURE DIGITAL AD CAMPAIGN HIGHLIGHTING WHY PRUITT MUST GO

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Defend Our Future Director Adrienne Cooper released the following statement calling on Scott Pruitt to resign as Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator, and announced that the organization will sponsor a six-figure digital advertising campaign highlighting why Pruitt must go:

“Since his first day as EPA Administrator, Scott Pruitt has put families at risk by making our air dirtier and our water more dangerous to drink. Instead of doing his job to protect our health and environment, Scott Pruitt has wasted over one hundred thousand taxpayer dollars on luxury travel and become the subject of multiple independent government investigations. And when he’s not exploiting the American people, he’s endangering them with reckless rollbacks and repeals of key health and environmental protections.

“The American people have had enough. It has become clear that Scott Pruitt must resign as EPA Administrator. We are joining the growing and deep concern among Americans and communities across the country about Scott Pruitt’s dangerous agenda at the EPA. At Defend Our Future, we believe that clean air and water are a right, and we are committed to ensuring that Americans of all ages – especially the young people who will have to face the consequences of the decisions our elected leaders make today – feel empowered to advance climate solutions. We will continue to work to protect our planet for future generations.”

Since becoming EPA Administrator in February 2017, Scott Pruitt has come under fire for his close ties to industry, his abuse of taxpayer dollars, and for his efforts to undermine science and public health. He has scrubbed references to climate change from EPA webpages; spent over $160,000 on first class airline tickets, military flights, and private jets; allocated $43,000 in taxpayer dollars to install a soundproof phone booth in his personal office; and spent over $2 million on an unprecedented 24-hour personal detail. His questionable conduct has led to multiple investigations by the EPA Office of Inspector General and the Government Accountability Office.
