WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 2, 2019) Today Defend Our Future, a national grassroots organization empowering young people to take action on climate change, released the following statement on the on the passage of HR 9, the Climate Action Now Act:

“Today, the U.S. House of Representatives voted 231-190 to pass HR 9, the Climate Action Now Act – the first major climate bill voted on in more than a decade. The legislation would stop the Trump administration from leaving the Paris Climate Agreement, the international agreement between almost every country in the world to work together to fight climate change.

“The Climate Action Now Act is supported by more than 3,750 signatories representing a diverse and broad coalition of businesses, states, tribes, college and universities, investors, and faith groups in addition to the many thousands of Americans who have spoken out in support of bold climate action.

“Young people, including thousands of Defend Our Future supporters across the United States, are demanding action from their elected officials – and that’s what we saw today in the House

“Today’s vote is a good step forward and we look forward to joining members of both parties to develop solutions that will protect our communities from climate change and transition our economy to 100% clean energy.”
