Biden Admin Announces American Climate Corps
Statement from Defend Our Future director Kyli Wagner
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Biden administration today announced a multi-agency approach to mobilize 20,000 young people to work in conservation, climate and clean energy jobs.
“The American Climate Corps will create opportunities for young people to shape the future they want for their communities, country and planet,” said Defend Our Future’s Kyli Wagner. “The jobs created under this plan will help the U.S. maintain public lands, strengthen communities against wildfires and other climate-fueled events, protect biodiversity and more. These good-paying jobs can help launch young people into environmental-focused careers.”
This announcement comes just days after the 30th anniversary of AmeriCorps and 90 years after the Civilian Conservation Corps was created. The program will be established by a memorandum of understanding between the Department of Labor, Department of the Interior, Department of Agriculture, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Department of Energy and AmeriCorps.
