Defend Our Future Arizona participated in Environmental Day at the State Capitol – an event organized by the Sierra Club’s Grand Canyon Chapter Director Sandy Bahr. The purpose of the event was to encourage lawmakers in the state to address some of Arizona’s most pressing local environmental issues.

With over 300 people in attendance, the all-day event included a press conference featuring state legislators, a tabling area for participating organizations, an interfaith prayer circle, and the attendance of debates in both the state House and Senate. Our Arizona supporters focused on meetings with state Senators and Representatives to discuss environmental concerns.

Defend supporters were joined by fellow environmentalists from the district for their office visits and they were able to meet with State Senator Juan Mendez, Representative Athena Salman and Representative Isela Blanc, all of whom have participated in past Defend events and are considered among the most environmentally-friendly legislators in the state.
