301 Orange Mall, Tempe, AZ, United States

Our Arizona team hosted “Environmental Policy 101” at Arizona State University. The event featured a dynamic set of speakers who spoke about local and federal environmental policy and their impacts on the community. Tempe City Councilwoman Lauren Kuby discussed how the city is making strides toward its goal of being powered by 100 percent renewable energy. ASU sustainability scientist David Sailor talked about his work on the “urban heat island” effect and the impact that EPA funding has had on his research. ASU professors Hanna Breetz, Ira Bennett and Sonja Klinsky all discussed different approaches to environmental policy, encouraging students to find climate change issues that resonate with them and to get involved in whatever way they feel they can best contribute. They also encouraged students to take action with Defend to help protect EPA’s budget.
